ALRIGHT YOU DOUCHEBAGS. I UPDATED THIS THING.
I cannot believe that the old version of this somehow managed to get 160 FAVORITES. More than any image in my gallery, even the pictures I put oodles of work into. I was also worried because my old one was incredibad and I didn't want those 160 people to be mislead into thinking that the old one was in any way accurate. So here's a new one. This is drawn in my own art style, that much is obvious. If you're looking to immerse yourself in hardcore realism, I suggest you stop looking at online tutorials and shell out some money for a book or an anatomy course. The old one can be found here, if you're curious. edited to add credit where due: the nose bit was very much inspired by Squids' infinitely superior EVERYTHING tutorial. The noses are my own creation, although they look very much like hers despite the fact that there was no reference. Oops. |

My goddesses! Where are you banished?
lend ears to my lugubrious tone:
The proportions, especially with reference to nose/forehead proportions and nose/lips are really difficult to get right.
In this instance, tutorials don't really help; the only thing that actually helps improve is to practice, practice, practice. Good drawing skills don't grow over night and can't be obtained by reading. They are a result of many hours of dull, tedious work, filling scores of pages and scribbling on hundreds of margins.
I appreciate your effort, but in the end I see this more as a manifesto against anime-style drawing and against idleness in drawing than as a tutorial. I appeal to all hobby artists to constantly develop their skills and to refuse to let themselves be tied to a particular drawing style.

Wow, I have so much to work on.
Kinda amazing, though. I was thinking about half of this stuff yesterday.
